Getting Started after installing TAO Community Edition

if you are new to TAO you may feel a bit lost on what to do next. Our Userguide ( User Documentation ) may be handy but I wanted to provide some steps forward so you can experiment some of the key features.

Getting started: import a demo test and deliver it

To get hands-on quickly, start by importing a demo test. It showcases several question types and lets you explore the basics.

1) Import a sample test

2) Create a Delivery
A Delivery packages a test so it is ready for administration.

  • In the top bar, click DeliveriesNew Delivery.

  • In Select the Test, type the first letters of your test name. If you didn’t rename it, it is likely TAO Suite Demo v4.

  • Click Publish and wait for the process to finish (about 30 seconds).

  • Use the arrow in the top-left to return to the Portal.

3) Create a Group and add test-takers

  • In the Portal, click GroupsCreate Group. Name it (for example, the classroom).

  • Click Users on the left, select the demo users (e.g., Demo 01, Demo 02, etc.), and add them to the group.

4) Create a Session
A Session tells TAO which group is allowed to take which delivery.

  • Go to SessionsCreate Session.

  • Give it a name.

  • In Group, select the group you just created.

  • In Delivery, choose the delivery you published in step 2.

  • You can leave the other fields at their defaults for now, then click Create Session (top right).

5) Try the test as a learner

  • Log out from the admin account.

  • Log in as Demo 01 (or another demo user). If you did not set passwords yet, see the installation guide: Installation Guide

  • You should now see the sample test and can explore additional features.

If you get successfully to this screen, please let us know
