I am building a test in TAO - in previous tests there was always an arrow in the bottom right corner for the test taker to click to go to the next screen. In my latest test now when I run it in a demo account it has two buttons ‘skip’ and ‘attempt[1 left]’ to go to the next question the test taker has to click on the ‘attempt[1 left]’ button - is there a way to change this back to just show the arrow?
Hi, Thank you for your message,
Those are actually options available when you configure the test assembly level,
When you click on “Authoring” on the test bank you will reach this screen, after selecting a part “settings” or an item “ settings”, you can see on the bottom right a few options which impact indeed how the navigation will be offered to test takers. MaxAttempts should remain 0 to allow for unlimited attempts and not have (1 attempt left) . Allow Skipping should remain at 0 for your usecase.
Please note that those settings can be setup on a full part of the test or on specific items, so depending on how you configured the test you may want to check at both “levels”. Please let us know if this helped you
You can also find a bit more details on those settings here: Test Part settings

Hi Patrick,
thanks for your quick reply. I’ve checked my settings and max attempts is set to 0 for all items and for the overall test. Skip is selected which I’m not too phazed about - it’s more just that I want the next arrow to show.
Kind regards
Paige
Hi Paige, I know all those options are sometimes confusing, but there are three levels where the number of attempts could override a bit the navigation options, maybe check:
at the test part level: Navigation –> should be “Non Linear”
at the test part level, the section level and the item level : number of attempts 0 and allowSkipping is unchecked.
In all cases, after a modification of the test settings, you need to republish it as a new delivery and reconfigure a new session in the Portal. Maybe my colleague @dragos.ivan will chime in later as he knows more in depth this part about navigation controls

Hi Paige,
It seems you are running on our Ignite environments and our support team has been taking care of this report already. It seems also you have had brought the correct adaptations to the options and the only step left was to publish a new version of the test as a new delivery and start exposing this new delivery as a new session available to test takers.
Please let the team know via the support channel, if all is good now in terms of navigation options for your assessments.
Regards,
Patrick
Sorry Patrick I realised now this is for the Community environment- I thought it was a general community support forum. No I published a new delivery and the problem is still not resolved our end. But yes we are working with your support team.
Thanks for the assistance.
